Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church

This National Historic Landmark, is home to the pulpit where Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. first preached his message of hope and brotherhood. Organized in 1877 by freedmen and free people of color and standing just steps from the state capitol, this church was a center point of the Montgomery bus boycott and of the community that built the modern civil rights movement.
